NAS AND PARTNERS COMMEMORATE WORLD AIDS DAY PDF Print E-mail

The government of Sierra Leone through the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with its partners on Monday 2nd December 2024 join the World to celebrate World AIDS Day on the theme: “Take The Right Path, My Health My Right”.

The event was held at the Miatta Conference Centre Brookfield West of Freetown.

In his opening remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Andrew Sorie, expressed satisfaction for enhancing healthcare access for all. He noted that the nation stands together not only to remember those lost to this AIDS but also to affirm the belief that health is a fundamental human right.  He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS, noting that collective responsibility will ensure everyone has the right to the healthcare they deserve.

WORLD AIDS DAY Commemorated PDF Print E-mail

Sierra Leone joined the world on 1st December 2022 to commemorate WORLD AIDS day at the Milton Margai Technical University auditorium Goderich. The annual celebration witnessed a number of activities including a symposium organized by the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat.

In his opening remarks the Chairperson of the occasion Dr. Francis Smart reminded the gathering that the United Nations General Assembly in 1988 set aside this date for the commemoration.

LAUNCH OF COMMUNITY – LED MONITORING TOOLS, COMMUNITY INFORMATION SHARING AND REAL – TIME REPORTING PLATFORM, PATIENT AND COMMUNITY CHARTERS PDF Print E-mail

The Network of HIV Positives Sierra Leone (NETHIPS), National Aids Secretariat (NAS), and the Consortium for the Advancement of Rights of Key Affected Population (CARKAP) in collaboration with other partners on Friday 1st July 2022 launched the Community-Led Monitoring Project funded by the United States of America Government through the Health Resources and Services Administration. Three (3) documents that will be used to promote and protect the rights of Recipients of Care and Key Populations and at the same time improve service provision in the National AIDS response were also launched. These documents included, Community-Led Monitoring tools, the Community Charter, the Patient Rights Charter and an information sharing platform that will generate Real-time evidence of Services Provision, Stigma and Discrimination and stockout of HIV & TB Commodities. Theme for this launch was: Communities Make A Difference; Communities Will End AIDS by 2030.

The celebration was in collaboration with Local Councils, District Health Management Team (DHMT), the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Implementing Partners, Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), Eastern Polytechnic, Covenant Hope College, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and Media Houses.

NAS OPENS NEW BUILDINGS AND BIDS FAREWELL TO OUT-GOING DIRECTOR GENERAL PDF Print E-mail

The National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) unveiled its new office buildings on Friday 14 June 2019. Supported by the Global Fund and Government of Sierra Leone. The NAS spent over $300,000 USD on two buildings in Bellair Park, off Dworzark Farm, in Freetown.

The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Lands Country Planning and the Environment provided the land where the buildings were built. The buildings are painted brown and yellow. The property has a spacious car park that can host dozens of vehicles.

Assignment Title: Piloting of Needle and Syringe Exchange Program in Sierra Leone

Reference No. : GF/NAS/NACP/SER/04/2018

The National AIDS Secretariat received funding from Global Fund against HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) as Principal Recipient (PR) to implement “Program Continuation Request (PCR)” which commenced in January 2018 and ends 31st December 2020. In collaboration with the Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM) of the Global Fund and its Sub Recipients (SRs), NAS is scaling up a prioritized National AIDS Response focused in six High Burden Districts and Key Populations as the most affected and infected by HIV. The current grant includes investment in HIV programs focussed on key populations including Female Sex Workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and people who inject drugs (PWID). The Secretariat requires the services of a consultant to Pilot the Implementation of Needle and Syringe Exchange Program in Sierra Leone. The Secretariat intend to use part of the proceeds from the Global Fund grant for eligible payment for the execution of this activities.
